The Hungaroring is a motorsport race track in Hungary. It is located on the outskirts of the municipality of Mogyoród, north-east of Budapest and 9 km as the crow flies or walking distance west of Gödöllő. Formula 1 has been a regular guest there since 1986 as part of the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 1986 race was the first GP during the Cold War to be held in a communist country. In the course of the new construction of the track in 1985 by the Hungarian state for the equivalent of about 15 million DM (7.67 million euros), an adventure park was also built (Hungaroring Adventure Park).
The track is located directly on the M3 motorway and about 20 km from the centre of Budapest. Situated in a valley, 80 per cent of the track can be seen from the approximately 50 hectares of grandstands. This ideal location means that the Hungaroring is often referred to as a flat plate, as spectators sit on its edge while watching the race. The track is known as a challenging circuit with few good overtaking opportunities.
Formula 1 will be visiting Hungary until at least 2026.
In 2014, a DTM race was also held at the Hungaroring.
