The Circuit Zolde is a 3977-metre-long motorsport race track in the town of Zolder-Terlaemen near Hasselt in Belgium. It was planned by the Dutchman Hans Hugenholtz and opened in 1963 by the local Zolder Motorsport Club. Between 1973 and 1984, the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix was held here a total of ten times. In 1980, the Belgian Grand Prix for motorbikes was held here. The Circuit Zolder is best known for the death of Canadian Gilles Villeneuve in an accident during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Instead of the then fast right-hand bend, the so-called Gilles Villeneuve chicane now exists at the site of the accident.
